Ancient Papers
As I began this series, I was inspired by travels through Egypt, Lamu, and China. I was awakened by the enduring power of ancient walls—their layered surfaces, scarred, inscribed, and remade by time. These structures embodied an accumulated history that I sought to translate into my own material language. The works also reflect my fascination with the architectural geometry of the mandala—squares and circles nested within the larger rectangle of the canvas. During my travels, I collected Chinese medicine papers and old currency for their beauty, fragility, and the cultural histories they carried. These materials became the foundation for collage works that merge pattern, symbol, and texture, within a Constructivist vocabulary.
